Gandhara is the kingdom from which Sakuni, Gandhari, Subala, and Sudharma hail from.
According to a popular Jain legend, Gandhara was invaded by a Kuru Prince (likely Bheeshma, Virchitravirya, or Shantanu), and that the Gandharan royal family was imprisoned, given little food. Sakuni was the only one to survive, and that is a reason why Sakuni vowed to destroy the Kuru Princes at Hastinapur.
